Nikolaustag....

December7/16

.....is the day originally kids put out their shoes the nite before and the next morning they found sweets if they had been good or a stick if they had n 't.  Nowadays things (like most things) are getting more lavish, one of our sons-in-law claims that we celebrate  "little Xmas"..πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚   Anyway  we like it and the night before the 6th  daughter no.2 dropped in and left our surprise bag. The next morning I had to leave the house and since herr H was still asleep I opened the present by myself and left it sitting on the living room table for him to look at, still nicely wrapped in celophane with a red bow .

While I was gone, hubby's doc showed up to give him his weekly shot . I arrived home just at the moment the man was about to leave and it almost knocked me over when he picked up the bag, thanking hubby elaborate for the "Nikolaus" . I really had been flabergasted, still taking that for a joke but then he took the bag and started to leave. First I was too embarrassed to say anything   but then I thought  . .no,noway  .and I told him that this would not work, daughter's present, you understand. An stupid husband kept insisting he sbould take it and me shouting no, you can not give away my present, for heavens sake!  So finally doc left  without the bag. By that time I had a laughing fit and grabbed one of the chocolate nikolauses out of the bag and forced it upon him as consolation...in our driveway. And then I went inside and gave herrn H hell!

A little bit of rain in Spain

October 17/2016

trip to Spain.....

....yes, Mallorca, that island Germans love to invade..and the British too .And you can tell them easyly apart, the Germans are the ones roasting like grilled chickens ,the British sitting paleskinned under sunumbrellas at the pool. But lets start from the beginning. Reason for our little trip our 60th wedding anniversary. Amazing that we still love each other - our way! lol...never mind! Again, like at our last trip, the taxi put us out at the wrong gate and since we were early on account of the strike situation from two airlines we were not so sure if we would leave at all.Since this time we had to drag the luggie along  we had booked carrier service but of course the guys were not available yet. So I deposited Fred and our baggage and went hunting for them at the airport milling with hundreds of people...first day of fall school holidays and all of Germany must have decided to travel! well ,found them and then I had to take luggie and seperate batteries to a special check-in, then we had to organize handicap service for hubby, because he is unable to walk even a few meters. Finally we were seated  in our plane which left with just a little delay and upon arrival in Spain we were supposed to be taken out of the plane with a lift, which left us sitting cold. We had the pleasure to watch the cleaning staff and the change of crews, no lift! and the plane could not leave before they got rid of us. On top of that we were afraid our limo service would have left and our bags and luggie ended up in lost and found. Finally the device showed up and took us on an airport sightseeing tour. Hubby had the brilliant idea to phone the hotel to tell them to hold the limousine. Our bags and luggie still were turning lonely tours on the belt. But the arrival at the hotel really made up for all the mishap, a beautiful place
with superfriendly staff. We treated ourselves to a drink at a loungebar and had a great view over the sea and the harbour bay. Today, sunday,we took it easy we also solved the small gau...Toilet seat too low for Freddie, but I had the brilliant idea to put the luggie in front ,so he can pull himself up .....tonite we will have our special dinner, toasting the next 60 years! ...tomorrow more!
Monday..
ventured to Soller Port by shuttle, bought a perfect bag for the battery since the airline broke the case it had been packed togther with the charger and the cable..luckily the things did  not get lost!  we ate lunch at a little harbour restaurant where Fred orderd a dish he then claimed it was not what he ordered. Bought a straw hat, the absolute guaranty that the nice weather will be over. Had a pretty cold swim in the infinity pool and then we had our first tapa meal...absolutely to be recommended. But we dined inside, the nights are getting kind of chilly.
Tuesday
we are very lazy, actually I am waiting for the sun to come out, we had a very heavy rainfall, but in contrary to home it does not hold. So later on for a swim in the infinity pool! I took quite some pics of the hotel and the view.
Wednesday
One of my "do it yourself" days. Went with the tram to Soller. If you take the train, which is also old open waggons  you can drive all the way to Palma..But I did ot want to leave Herr H. for such a longtime, so I went to Soller, just to get the hang of the ride. ....very picturesqe! a valley with little villages, lush gardens full of orange  lemon and olive trees. Went to a little museum presenting Picasso and Miro exhibits, quite nice, Then I visited the cathedral, which is quite impresssive, but I liked the small church here at Soller Port better. Coming back I ran all over the port looking for a taxi stand, since the shuttle only ran two hours later.found one finally..puh! Treated myself to some spa, very relaxing! At nite we ate at the soushi lounge here at the hotel.
Thursday
Spa galore!  Herr H. complained that he was stuck in the room all day.Own fault I would say if one is too sluggish to take a little initiative. We booked a table at one of the harbour restaurants, Called NuNu
, lovely food  for me and hubby, like mostly, made the wrong choice and got moody. during the night we had quite a thunderstorm and this morning .....
friday
the sea is very rough. a pleasure cruise, quite a big boot  , gave it a try, we watched it from our balcony having arough ride in the surf and then giving up and returning to the harbour  with probably mostly puking passengers.
so now I will treat myself to the spa for a last time and then I will have to pack two bags with stuff,of which we at most used 2/3.

saturday....
I will not talk about our trip back, a delayed plane and this horrible airport at Palma. But we made it home safe and sound after a nice week, that's what counts! πŸ‘Œ

The Waiting Game

July 29/2016
Two close friends have been treated for cancer lately, one we buried 2 days ago. He suffered from leukemia and died within 2 months following the diagnosis.

The 2nd. one, a former lady riding friend of mine, had a severe accident breaking her pelvis and head over a year ago falling in her home and had been in a nursing home after her recuperation time. She had been a strong smoker and during her healing time was diagnosed with lung cancer, going through chemo and all what comes with it. I often visited with her in the nursing home, but then we had always been in her room. Yesterday, on account of  the nice  weather,we decided to sit in the garden and for me that really turned into the little horror picture show. Those poor desolate figures sitting around waiting fo a ridiculous game of throwing a ring into the middle of a circle, that measely, small glass of mean tasting water which was handed out (they were generous,I got one too) the leery fat man in his huge wheelchair who kept pulling stupid jokes all the time, thinking he was the bull in the ring of poor old cows....and then the 3 little ladies, sitting at the other end of our table, one pulled out a game of MENSCH Γ„RGERE DICH NICHT , setting the board up and for a start dropping the little figurines to the ground, which I picked up..and then..oh horror..asked me if I would like to join in. I denied, very politely and told them that already as a kid I hated that game.
And then I told my friend I had to leave (could not stay another minute)
and going out I begged the Lord that I would never end up in a place like that, told him that I had not been so bad that I deserved this.
No joking, the only way you could get me into a place like that would be when I had lost my mind.

The Pride of a Nation

july 27/2016

Listening to the speeches at the election conventions you are confronted on the democratic side with brilliant , on the republican side with biased spiteful words, but all those speeches have one thing in common...they are full of patriotism and pride of the United States.

Now...I have been a child who grew up mainly after the 2nd world war and what I mostly learned about my country was that it started a war and that we have to live with and pay for a tremendous collective guilt. This, I think, is nothing to be proud of in your formative years. So over the years growing up I tried to develop myself into an openminded, interested ,unbiased individual, who started to be critical about her own country in the first place. And that brings me back to my point of viewing other countries and especially the United States.

O.k..America never lost a war in this and the previous century, but they have failed miserably in countries like Vietnam, Iraque and Afghanistan p.e.  and they have not, till up to day managed to solve the problem with a minoity of their people whom they call african americans. The ancestors of those people have been brought to ,at that time America, against their will, have been  kept as slaves and after they had been "freed" not integrated but left apart and alone without a chance to develop themselves into free people with equal rights. O.k. now you have a black president but alone the fact that he is called a "black" president speaks for itself.

So to be honest, I do not see a reason in this excessive pride in this country which is excercised at those conventions.
Mistakes  and that goes for all over the world, should not be swept under the carpet  but should teach us to strive for a better world.

I wish in the case of the US elections I could say...might the better one win, but I see no better one and I see one who will ruin the country and the world.

Insight of an Outsider

July 08/2016
I have been born an raised in Germany. As a child who had been growing up during hardship times for Germany  I watched this Nazi country step by step making efforts to turn into a democracy. I was eager to experience and learn about foreign countries, their people and the way they live. I have been to the United States to different states about twenty times and everytime I had been overwhelmed by the beauty of the landscape and the friendliness of the people. Never once (except for my last trip) I met  and talked to a black person face to face. Of course I saw black people in the cities, but for me they were the same  like seeing an asian or east indian person. They ..for me..were Americans living in America. But then, with social media, I met a young black lady and over the years I got to know her a little bit (a lovely, brave ,bright and diligent woman) and  through her made the aquaintance ( by internet) with quite a few of her black friends. And suddenly a completely different way of life and thinking opened up to me , as a matter of fact a completely different America . Up to then I had presumed people just live ,according to life standards , next to each other, but there were different neighbourhoods, different churches, different schools and even different universities. And if you looked at pictures, the crowds of people were pure black, seldom you saw a white face. And the presumed superiority of the white communities I found strange and frightening. That black people had to be afraid for their lifes and that of their children just on account of the colour of their skin in a country which called itself the "land of the free"....incomprehensable!
This really got me to thinking about the trouble boiling up right now and where the white people stand in this. There must be enough sensible white people around who would be shocked and full of compassion!
...And that brings me back to the beginning of my story. America is such a huge country and many states are just not confronted with this problem. For them it is far away like in another land. Therefore they do not think about it,let alone care.
It really appears that there are two Americas. Will they ever unite?
People will have to learn that if you cut  yourself you bleed the same, black or white.

Just me...

June 21/2016

Now that's a funny story again and it only could happen to me!
Will try to start from the beginning. We have a bush next to our entrance door, ages old and interwoven  by time with ivy crawling up our housewall. From one day to the other the bush died, don't ask me why. So I talked to our gardener trying to tell him what kind of replacement I wanted. Had seen a very pretty shrub in front of a house on my drive to my shopping market. To make a long story short, I thought it was a good idea to drive there and take a pic of the plant. Went there this morning ,pretty early, because I did not want people to spy me taking pics.  You never know what ideas jump up in their heads. Found a good parking space right across from the bush, rolled down my car window and took my iPad  to take a pic and a huge black guy in a gardener's outfit approached ,smiled and said...isn't it beautiful?...Redfaced I stuttered something about my gardener and a new bush etc, and then next to the bush a little ,hidden door opened and a somewhat at me suspicially looking guy showed up. So I did give no more explainations, only gas to get away from the place. So much for my secret action! But at least I got a pic of the bush and I only hope our gardener knows the name.

Smoke our weather in the pipe...

May 16/2016

.....and my oldest daughter and hubby are flying to California today for a WHOLE month! Wish I could drag along..sigh..but nevertheless, I wish them safe travels and lots of fun.
Landfrau is busy in the meantime baking strawberry shortcake, which is delicious but hardly touched by hubby, cooking marvelous steak to the point, he eats only half of it and n a c h o s, baked in ine oven with jalapenos and cheese sauce, nice and crusty...hmmm..jummy! which he does not even touch.
Well, my fate , my fat! 😭
To keep myself busy during these boring Pfingstholidays ( man! do there have to be two?) I decided to put some of my about 3 thousand pics into the computer cloud and after having finished pushed a wrong button and bingo! they doubled themselves and burst he capacity of the cloud. So the only way to get rid of the twins I tried to cancel them one by one (the only way I found - autodidact) hit a wrong button again after half way through  and cancelled the whole lot, oh joy! ...
But I have one goodie to look forward to, I gifted myself with the video Purple Rain and I hope Prince will not dissapoint me and will run on our video recorder,. He better! Otherwise I shall jump from our tower!
well, maybe the sun will give it a try to peek out then I will grab my bike and leave on a tour around the world!!! ...YEAH!!!!

Home again...

ΓΌ.April 30/16

.......for a week now already and it seems as if we have never been gone.
The place to stay we picked on that northern island Sylt turned out to be a very good choice.
- as a matter of fact it has been perfect, a cozy, spacious room with our own porch..with a beach basket!
( very much favoured in german coastal resorts) we even could make use of  when the sun decided to peek out! ,good food, nice ambiente and superfriendly service. We has the view upon a little sportsharbor and the sea. It had not been the open seaside, with the rough surf and the dunes and the sand, but we had the advantage of watching the turning of the tide. We flew by Air Berlin and the handicap sevice for Herr H. worked very well, I managed to handle our 2 pieces of luggage and the handluggage, I am developping routine! The flying time had been under one hour, beats travelling by car by far! We made the wise decision to send the scooter per freight, so it awaited us at the hotel and Herr H. could move around like speedy Gonzales right away. Of course it is not laid out for distances 6 km/h) so we had been confined to the hotel radius, but I rented an ebike for one day and made a big tour which I named nature and culture. I visited a very old church (12th century) an old frisian home, equipped with furniture and all, very neat! and of course I had to see the open sea and the big dunes. Left my bike at a parking spot for bikes and got a fit when I came back and the key did not work only to find out that out of the three bikes parked at that huge lot I had picked the wrong bike. Very embarassing and I was happy the owner did not show up, he must have taken me for a bike robber! πŸ˜‚...
Days passed real fast, I spent quite some time in the wellness section, had massages, took my daily hour of swimming, so I could feast on the good food  in the evening without regret.-
oh yes,lol...there was that one time when the spa lady and myself tried to help hubby into the whirlpool, we hang onto him when he started to slip like a slippery fish on the steps and we barely managed to hold him, so  the pool  and whirlpool were an  out for him, a real shame, but a broken hip would have been worse!
Flight home went without complications and we had a sweet taxi driver who even carried our bags into the house.

I think we will be back to that place and maybe next time it will be a bit warmer.Up there north it's even more ice age than around here. We can forget spring and hope for a better summer!

Fred is dead!

April 4/16

Today is the day! Herr H. is getting a new mattress. The occasion to do a thouroughly cleaning of his bedroom. ...and I made a horrid discovery. There has been a dead person under the bed, all turned to dust. I somehow had a hunch that the person I am living with is not my husband....

                                        Fred is dead
                                        He turned to dust
                                        Under his bed

That, of course   explains some things!

Trump the Trump

March 2/2016...10:50 a.m

The other day I wrote a post in my fb account about stopping to make fun of Trump, because the laughter might get stuck in your throat. Well, after "super tuesday" it is more and more obvious that Trump only can get stopped by Trump. The blind ,for him cheering lemmings can not be conviced how dangerous this person really is and that he could destroy America and the rest of the world with his unpredictability.

In 2004 we had been travelling South Dakota. Why for heavens sake S.D. you might ask. Well, one simple reason..I wanted to see the run of the buffaloes! A tremendous spectacle and we did not regret to have seen it! Why I mention that in connection with Trump? Let me explain.....
We left the guest farm where we stayed, supplied by our lovely hosts with blankets, folding chairs ,food and hot coffee , very early, it had been still dark and pretty fresh, mind you fall! As we arrived at the gate of the national park and the premises of the buffalo run we almost keeled over backwards...hundreds of people crowding around behind the mashed wire fence...it had been like a big open air party, which in a way it was. But let me get to the point. Of course we got talking to the people around us and after they found out we came from Germany they asked us all kind of ,some of them very odd, questions. But the winner was this inquiry: DO YOU STILL DRIVE OXCARTS IN GERMANY?  ...No, this had not been a joke!

Now multiply this by millions and there you have Trump's followers. These people are simpleminded and ignorant. Globality for them is like chinese language and they do not know about Europe and the rest  of the world. Their little world ends at their nicely painted fence  and this is the world Trump promises them to safeguard.

So, my dear friends, it is about time to wake up, do not ridicule Trump, take him serious and fight him.

For the sake of America and the rest of the world.!

Not Doomed Yet

February 12/16

One person in 100 000 has an allergic reaction to the nuclear injection for the cintigrafie. Three guesses who that person is...me!  But the good news, the results of the test have been negative..big breath of relief! Already had made plans how to manage my life if the outcome had been bad, well..those I put on ice for times to come.
By the way, drinking 2 ltrs. of water within 2 hours is pure water torture and after that you piss radioactive on account of the stuff which runs in your venes.Weird!

Fuck The Genes

February 7/2016

So my doc is sending me to a "nuclear" test which lasts for 3 hours and tells me not to worry. And guess who runs home and starts googling? ..right! Landfrau!   I know what my brother died from and now of course I think I might be doomed. Well, I have the age and you have to die of something one day eventually. That is a fact. Do I worry? I do!
